PTAC

Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) are a common sight in many large hotel chains. The units are used to provide a heating and cooling service for large spaces, such as conference halls or convention centers, where multiple rooms can be served by one new unit. PTACs typically are between 5 and 10 feet tall, which allows the unit to handle up to 20,000+ BTU.

The main advantage of a PTAC is its flexibility in location. Most hotels reserve the space on the exterior wall closest to their service core for mechanical equipment. This makes sense from a construction perspective because it is easy to run utilities into that location. In a hotel, this space is often not available due to the proximity to the exterior wall and windows. The PTAC can be installed away from these restrictions if needed.

Another advantage of a PTAC is energy efficiency. Recently introduced models have an energy star rating of 4 or 5 stars on most models, which means they are at least 20% more efficient than older models.

The PTAC are powerful option for heating and cooling in
industrial, commercial and residential buildings in New York City. Relying on packaged terminal air conditioners (PTAC) for a comfortable work environment or living space. They are also known for reliability and longevity.

A PTAC unit is a self-contained heating and cooling system with its own condensing/compressor unit, refrigerant tubing, condenser coil, air flow grille assembly and cooling fans.

Small PTAC units cool individual rooms or small areas — an office, bathroom or sleeping area — while large PTAC units cool entire floors of a building. PTACs may be portable, semi-permanent or permanent and can provide comfort in spaces that window or wall air conditioners cannot fit.

A system that is too large will cool or heat your house quickly, but you may not feel comfortable. On the other hand, a system that is too small just wont get the job done, especially in extreme weather conditions. But a correctly sized system isn’t just based on the size of the structure. Many factors go into determining the size of the system. Including type of house and walls, type and size of windows, insulation, basement and attic conditions, house orientation, and so on.

Heating and Air Conditioning equipment, no matter what kind you have, should be inspected, cleaned, and serviced at least once a year. The best scenario is to have the heating system checked in the Fall and the air conditioning checked in the Spring. Oil-fired equipment should definitely be cleaned and serviced annually; at the beginning of each heating season.
